The Revitalization of Pier 70 in San Francisco

A bit of background: This area used to be an industrial powerhouse, as Pier 70 was one of the most productive shipyards in the country. It was extremely active during World War II, but then, it went dark for a while after the shipyard closed.

Luckily, this revitalization of Pier 70 will give the area an entirely new life and feel.

The project comes from a partnership between the Port of San Francisco and Brookfield Property Development. It aims to create a micro-community of restaurants, homes, offices, lab space, retail, and art studios on the shoreline.

All of this is going to take place across 28 acres, including 9 acres of parks and playgrounds, right near the waterfront.

What’s Happening at Pier 70?

You may be wondering, just how long has this been in the works?

The project broke ground in 2018, with some bumps along the way that have stalled it.

Phase one opened in 2022 and cost over $230 million. It included some roadwork, infrastructure, and, most importantly, the restoration of Building 12.

What exactly is Building 12? Well, let me show it to you.

All about Building 12

This three-story, 150,000-square-foot building currently stands in Pier 70, and it’s one of the sections that’s most well underway. It’s a really cool space, and I have great news: It’s supposed to open this summer of 2024!

What’s really interesting about the building is that it’s listed on the National Registry of Historic Properties. The developers had to preserve some old elements of the property but also bring in new life. It will have this cool mix of old and new.

We know that several leases have been signed for the property. Standard Deviant, a brewery coming to the area, and a motorcycle shop called Scuderia are coming soon. Greedy Belly Bakery is also coming soon, so there are some fun San Francisco staples and likely newer businesses on the way!

We’ll keep you posted as this opens, but we’re really excited about what this will bring to the Dogpatch area.

Explore the Trendy RH at Pier 68

You probably want to see something new and shiny around here, and that’s exactly where I’m taking you next!

Want to take a look?

This is RH, a huge area technically not in Pier 70 but at Pier 68. It opened just around the corner in 2022. You might have been there already, as it’s one of the trendiest spots in town.

When it opened in 2022, it generated a lot of celebrity buzz. They also have locations in Marin and Chicago.

People come here to grab a drink at the bar and walk around. There are multiple levels of RH luxury interior designs, all beautifully set up.

You could spend an afternoon here, wine or champagne in hand, then head to the Palm Court restaurant for dinner. After dinner, go up to the rooftop, stunning at night with 360 views of the city.

So, how about we dive into the neighborhood that’s making all of this possible?
